May 23rd 2008
Colleagues, You will be aware of that Home Secretary, awarded Police officers a pay award of 2.5% with an effective date of 01/12/07. Our colleagues in the Police Federation of England and Wales challenged that decision as it went outside the agreement of independent arbitration. The Home Secretary's ruling in this matter is subject to judicial review and we still await the outcome of that ruling. It was for that reason there has been a delay in settling the pay award for 2007 However due to the continued delay in settling the pay agreement for 2007 and having taken advise from other Police Federations, we have applied to the Chief Constable who is the Accounting Officer for the Police Authority for the 2007 pay award of 2.5%, for federated ranks to be made, along with any back salaries owed with an effective date of 01/12/07 with the following proviso: That this matter be revisited if there is any change to the present pay award made by the Home Office following the outcome of the current Judicial Review which concerns the implementation date of the 2007 pay deal.
Motor Vehicle Allowances
The CNPF have also requested that the Motor Vehicle allowances be uplifted in accordance the Police negotiating board agreement on this matter with an effective date of the 1st April 2008. This matter has received the approval of the Secretaries of State and the Scottish Ministers. I will request that an HR Bulletin be published to advice members as to when they can expect to have both announcements reflected in their salaries. Thank you, for your forbearance in this matter, I will ensure that you are kept appraised of any changes that effect your terms and conditions of employment.
